Student Spotlight: Diya — Dancing with Heart, Heritage, and Joy

At Indianica Academy, we don’t just teach dance — we nurture confidence, culture, and community. This month, we’re proud to shine our Student Spotlight on someone who embodies all of that and more: Diya — a talented, passionate dancer who has been part of the Indianica family since October 2018.

Over the years, Diya has grown into a graceful performer and a strong young woman, rooted in tradition and bursting with joy. Her dance journey began with Bollywood, but it was at just 7 or 8 years old that she made a bold and beautiful shift:

“We asked her what kind of dance she wanted to learn, and without hesitation, she said, ‘Kathak,’” shared her dad, Bhavin. “She’s just so happy in those moments, and it’s a joy to witness.”

Since then, Diya has continued to flourish — not only as a dedicated student but also as a proud member of the award-winning Aatish Dance Company, where she’s had the opportunity to perform at a competitive level and share her talents on bigger stages.

Her mom, Ashwinta, reflected on a recent moment that brought tears of pride:

“Diya has always felt anxious giving presentations… so watching her stand in front of a full auditorium and speak with such confidence was an incredibly proud moment for me.”

That transformation, that confidence — it didn’t happen overnight. It was shaped by years of dedication, encouragement, and the support of both her family and her dance community here at Indianica.

“My favorite part about dancing with Indianica is that I’m able to have fun with my friends while moving forward with my dance journey,” says Diya.

We are truly honored that Bhavin and Ashwinta chose Indianica Academy to be part of Diya’s journey — a journey that has shaped not just her skills, but her voice, confidence, and cultural pride.
